Spring Dryer Vent Cleaning – 2024

Spring flowers - ImpatiensSprouting plants and blossoming flowers! Springtime is invigorating! Many people like to clean their residences and businesses, inside and out each spring.

And it’s a good time to remember to get your dryer vent cleaned, too! The moist lint that comes lose while drying laundry can clog up inside your dryer vent. Regular dryer vent cleaning helps prevent a clogged dryer vent. A restricted dryer vent means longer time to dry a load of laundry, and your dryer works harder, too!

If you live in the Jacksonville, Florida area, just call Eddie Kyles at A Lint Free Vent 904.537.1483. Make an appointment to get your residential or commercial dryer vent thoroughly cleaned. Eddie uses a rotating brush to remove the lint; the preferred method recommended.

Not long ago, Eddie was cleaning a dryer vent and found it clogged with dirt! The vent duct went outside to a “shepherd’s hook” which will usually keep dirt and other foreign material out of the ductwork, but not this time! That dryer is working much more efficiently now!

While “Spring Cleaning” another home, Eddie checked the dryer inside filter (prior to starting to clean the dryer vent duct) and found the filter was packed solid with lint! The client said they did not know that there was a filter in the dryer, that needed to be cleaned after each use. They had never cleaned the dryer inside filter since they purchased the dryer! Cleaning the lint from that inside filter made a big difference in how quickly the dryer finished a load of laundry!

One client said the dryer vent in their home had not been cleaned out “for a while”. As Eddie started to clean out that dryer vent, more and more lint came out. So much lint came out of that dryer vent, there must have only been a very little flow of dryer exhaust air going through it. A clogged dryer vent can be a fire hazard. The client stated it usually had taken several dryer cycles to get a load of laundry to dry. That was one very, very clogged dryer vent! And that dryer will be performing much better now that the vent is cleaned out.

If your dryer is taking longer and longer to dry a load of laundry, or if you need to run the dryer through several drying cycles to get your laundry dry, just call Eddie Kyles at A Lint Free Vent 904.537.1483 to make an appointment to get your spring dryer vent cleaning.

And if Eddie finds your dryer vent needs a repair, or would perform better if it were re-routed, don’t worry, Eddie can do those jobs for you, too!

Dryer Vents Need Annual Cleaning

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) recommends dryer vent cleaning each year, or whenever you notice that it takes longer than usual to get a load of laundry dried.

Lint collected in a flexible dryer vent ductBut because you can’t easily look inside your dryer vent ductwork to see how much lint has collected inside the vent, it’s easy to forget.

Some people notice signs that their dryer vent needs cleaning, like:

  • It takes longer to dry a load of laundry
  • Your dryer overheats and shuts off, and you have to wait for it to cool before you can finish drying a load of laundry
  • You see little clumps of lint sticking out of your dryer vent end cap, on your roof, beside your home, or in your garage

And the more you use your dryer (such as if you have a large family, or if you have a bank of dryers in your commercial laundromat), you should plan to get your dryer vent cleaned more than just once per year.

A homeowner in the Julington Creek neighborhood of Jacksonville, Florida called A Lint Free Vent recently to get their dryer vent cleaned. It had been 2 years since another company had cleaned their dryer vent!

The dryer exhaust flow in their dryer vent was restricted by the lint that had collected inside the ductwork since the last cleaning. These photos show some of the lint that we removed from their dryer vent ductwork. The rest of the lint that we removed went out the dryer vent end cap.

Our client was shocked to see how much lint had collected in their dryer vent! And they want A Lint Free Vent to clean their dryer vent on a regular basis.

As a service to our regular clients, we retain their contact information, and notify each client when their next dryer vent cleaning is due. Many of our clients have thanked us for providing this free and helpful safety consideration.

How Much Lint Collects in a Dryer Vent?

Ever wonder how much lint collects in a dryer vent?

lint clogging a dryer ventEvery time you dry a load of laundry, moist lint from your drying laundry collects in the exhaust path of clothes dryers. This lint collects inside in vent duct work each time the dryer is used.

This lint that collects in your dryer vent constricts your dryer vent duct, so less and less air can pass through it.

This means your dryer will take longer and longer to dry each load of laundry. Laundry will still be damp at the end of a timed drying cycle. And you will start to see clumps of dryer lint hanging out of your dryer vent cap.

These are signs your dryer vent needs to be professionally cleaned.

According to data from the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), the leading cause of thousands of fires in homes each year involving clothes dryers is failure to clean the dryer. And the NFPA recommends dryer vent cleaning each year, or whenever you notice that it takes longer than usual to get a load of laundry dried.

Our mobile dryer vent ductwork cleaning service usually takes less than an hour for most residential clients. For commercial clients, the time for dryer vent cleaning is determined by the number of dryer vents to be cleaned.

We provide a thorough cleaning from dryer to vent cap. (Whether the vent cap is on the roof top, on the side of your home, or in your garage.) And, we use a rotary brush. Cleaning lint out of dryer ductwork with a rotary brush is the recommended method in our industry for best results.

The first of the following photos shows of our rotary brush tool beginning to remove lint from the inside of a dryer vent duct.

The second photo shows of some of the collected lint removed from the dryer vent duct by our rotary brush.

And the final photo shows how much lint we removed from this dryer vent with our rotary brush tool. Even more lint blew out of the roof vent cap after our cleaning!

If we find any problems during our dryer vent inspection, we inform our client. We carry a selection of typical repair parts (such as flexible ducting and clamps) on our truck, so we can fix many common problems while we are at the client’s home or business.

A Lint Free Vent can also re-route or repair solid metal dryer vent ductwork. After we inspect your ductwork, we can give you a free estimate for the re-routing, repairs or replacement work that we recommend.

Clean Dryer Vent Challenge

Talking with a fellow about dryer vent cleaning, he said his residential dryer vent was cleaned two years ago, and his dryer was still drying laundry ok.

rotating brush, cleaning lint from inside a dryer ventI replied that A Lint Free Vent recommends getting your residential dryer vent cleaned at least once a year. Commercial dryers or dryers in homes that do a lot of laundry can need more than one dryer vent cleaning each year.

I offered to clean the guy’s dryer vent, and if not much lint came out it was free, but if a lot of lint came out, he owed me.

He accepted my challenge and said to go ahead, clean the dryer vent.

Get a Thoroughly Cleaned Dryer Vent

Eddie Kyles with CoronaVirus facemask - spring 2020A Lint Free Vent 904.537.1483 appreciates having Residential and Commercial clients who trust and depend on us to clean their dryer vents.

However, we have seen evidence that all dryer vent cleaning businesses do not provide the same level of thorough and professional cleaning that we do.

This client called us because it was taking longer and longer to dry a load of laundry in their home. (That’s an indication your dryer vent probably needs cleaning, or you could even need to repair or replace your dryer.) We suggested letting us clean their dryer vent before they got their dryer repaired or bought a new dryer.

The client told us they had just had their dryer vent cleaned by another company, 6 months prior.

Poorly cleaned dryer vent.We got all of this lint out of their dryer vent! Our client was surprised! I told him that his dryer was working correctly but all this lint had been restricting the dryer vent, so the dryer couldn’t get rid of the moisture from the laundry. They told us they hadn’t done more laundry than usual in the last 6 months. (We recommend getting your dryer vent cleaned on an annual basis, or more often if you do lots of laundry.)

Commercial Dryer Vent Cleaning – Jacksonville Florida

Laundrymat dryers with cleaned vent ductsA Lint Free Vent provides residential dryer vent cleaning and commercial dryer vent cleaning to people in the Jacksonville, Florida area.

  • Just like your home or condo dryer vent needs the lint cleaned out each year, commercial dryer vents need regular cleaning out, too!

We recently cleaned out the lint that had collected in the vents from commercial dryers in a laundrymat, here in Jacksonville.

Many customers at the laundrymat means lots of loads of laundry washed and dried, which results in layers of lint collecting in the dryer vents.

We thoroughly cleaned the lint from each vent duct, from the dryer to the vent cap, with our rotating brush. A rotating brush is the best way to clean lint from dryer vents.

Commercial dryer vent cleaning will save the laundrymat owner money – the dryers won’t have to run as long to dry a load of laundry. The cleaned dryer vents will also save clients money and time too. A clean dryer vent means it won’t take clients more time to dry their laundry and that means drying their laundry won’t cost them more money!

And if your dryer vent duct work needs repair, A Lint Free Vent can do that, too! A Lint Free Vent is experienced in dryer vent duct repair, replacement, and re-routing.

Regular Dryer Vent Cleaning Is Better

The neighbor of one of our clients asked A Lint Free Vent to clean their dryer vent, too.

roof dryer vent cap with stuck flapperThe neighbor had not had their dryer vent cleaned in several years, but they thought the dryer vent didn’t need cleaning because they were not seeing lint blown out the dryer vent cap and onto their roof.

We went up on the roof to make sure the dryer vent cap was not somehow restricted. We found this model dryer vent cap has a flapper inside. The flapper was supposed to open while the dryer was running, and then close when the dryer stopped. Apparently, the flapper had been jammed in the cap since it had been installed (several years ago), and no lint could come out. That was why the clients never saw lint blowing out onto their roof.

lint from dryer vent duct with stuck roof vent cap flapperWe unstuck the dryer vent cap flapper, and then cleaned several years worth of lint from the dryer vent ductwork.

Our client’s dryer thoroughly dries a load of laundry much more quickly now! And our client is very happy they avoided a potential fire in their dryer vent duct from all of the lint which had collected in it.

Laundry Dryer Money Saving Tips

Who doesn’t like saving money when they can?

Clay Electric Co-op logoA recent newsletter from our local Clay County Electric Co-Op of Florida shared these money saving tips on dryer utility bills:

  • Cleaning a clogged dryer vent will help each load of laundry dry more quickly. That saves time doing laundry, and makes a clothes dryer run more efficiently.
  • Drying one load of laundry immediately after another will reduce heat loss and reduce dryer warm up time, and that will reduce the time it takes to dry each load of laundry.

It only follows that when your dryer does not have to run as long, you save money on your utility bill for the power used by the dryer. And it follows that the dryer will last longer, too. Win/Win!
