Many of us have heard the old axiom, “What you don’t know can’t hurt you.” Well that is just not true for dryer lint collecting in the dryer vent duct.
The owner of a commercial laundry in Jacksonville, Florida recently called Eddie Kyles, owner of A Lint Free Vent, to get their dryer vent ducts cleaned.
The commercial laundry was very nice and clean inside.
When we got up on the roof of the building, we could see dryer lint all over the rooftop.
A lot of fabric will be washed and dried in a commercial laundry each year. Each time a piece of fabric is dried in a commercial dryer, little pieces; short, fine fibers separate from the surface of cloth and become lint. That moist lint is blown out of the dryer into the dryer vent ductwork. Some of the lint is blown clear through the vent and out the roof cap or vent cap on the side of the building. But some of that lint is heavy with moisture and falls onto the inner walls of the vent duct and begins to collect.
Over time, that lint can build up inside the vent duct, restricting the flow of exhaust air and building up heat. That restricted dryer vent makes the dryer work harder and longer to dry a load of laundry, and that leads to repair or replacement of the dryer. Once it is dried out, that dryer lint is flammable, and the increased heat in the restricted dryer vent has led to fires in commercial laundries and in homes, too!
The amount of lint that collects in dryer vent varies with each home or business. For some locations, an annual dryer vent cleaning is sufficient.
For more active homes or businesses that dry a lot more laundry, or fabric that produces a lot more lint, more frequent dryer vent cleaning may be recommended.
If dryer vents have been damaged, or the client wants the vent duct re-routed (such as from exhausting into the garage to exhaust outside the home), Eddie can provide a free estimate, and can replace and re-route both flexible and metal dryer exhaust vents, too!
If we find a problem or the client wants the vent duct re-routed (such as from exhausting into the garage to exhaust outside the home), Eddie can provide a free estimate, and can replace and re-route dryer exhaust vents, too! We can give you an estimate and often make repairs during our visit. We carry some standard spare duct items (clamps, caps, flexible ducting) in our truck, or we may need to pick up repair items at a nearby Home Depot or Lowe’s.
A Lint Free Vent provides professional commercial laundry dryer vent cleaning and residential dryer vent cleaning, from the dryer to the dryer exhaust vent cap, with a rotating brush. A rotating brush is the preferred method for dryer vent cleaning because it removes lint the best!
