Commercial Laundry Dryer Vent Cleaning – Jacksonville FL

Many of us have heard the old axiom, “What you don’t know can’t hurt you.” Well that is just not true for dryer lint collecting in the dryer vent duct.

Eddie Kyles - owner of A Lint Free VentThe owner of a commercial laundry in Jacksonville, Florida recently called Eddie Kyles, owner of A Lint Free Vent, to get their dryer vent ducts cleaned.

The commercial laundry was very nice and clean inside.

When we got up on the roof of the building, we could see dryer lint all over the rooftop.

A lot of fabric will be washed and dried in a commercial laundry each year. Each time a piece of fabric is dried in a commercial dryer, little pieces; short, fine fibers separate from the surface of cloth and become lint. That moist lint is blown out of the dryer into the dryer vent ductwork. Some of the lint is blown clear through the vent and out the roof cap or vent cap on the side of the building. But some of that lint is heavy with moisture and falls onto the inner walls of the vent duct and begins to collect.

lint clogging a dryer vent, smallerOver time, that lint can build up inside the vent duct, restricting the flow of exhaust air and building up heat. That restricted dryer vent makes the dryer work harder and longer to dry a load of laundry, and that leads to repair or replacement of the dryer. Once it is dried out, that dryer lint is flammable, and the increased heat in the restricted dryer vent has led to fires in commercial laundries and in homes, too!

The amount of lint that collects in dryer vent varies with each home or business. For some locations, an annual dryer vent cleaning is sufficient.

For more active homes or businesses that dry a lot more laundry, or fabric that produces a lot more lint, more frequent dryer vent cleaning may be recommended.

If dryer vents have been damaged, or the client wants the vent duct re-routed (such as from exhausting into the garage to exhaust outside the home), Eddie can provide a free estimate, and can replace and re-route both flexible and metal dryer exhaust vents, too!

Spring Dryer Vent Cleaning – 2026

Spring flowers - ImpatiensSprouting plants and blossoming flowers! Springtime is invigorating! Many people like to clean their residences and businesses, inside and out each spring.

And it’s a good time to remember to get your dryer vent cleaned, too! The moist lint that comes lose while drying laundry can clog up inside your dryer vent. Regular dryer vent cleaning helps prevent a clogged dryer vent. A restricted dryer vent means longer time to dry a load of laundry, and your dryer works harder, too!

If you live in the Jacksonville, Florida area, just call Eddie Kyles at A Lint Free Vent 904.537.1483 or email me at alintfreeventjax@gmail.com. Make an appointment to get your residential or commercial dryer vent thoroughly cleaned. Eddie uses a rotating brush to remove the lint; the preferred method recommended.

Not long ago, Eddie was cleaning a dryer vent and found it clogged with dirt! The vent duct went outside to a “shepherd’s hook” which will usually keep dirt and other foreign material out of the ductwork, but not this time! That dryer is working much more efficiently now!

While “Spring Cleaning” another home, Eddie checked the dryer inside filter (prior to starting to clean the dryer vent duct) and found the filter was packed solid with lint! The client said they did not know that there was a filter in the dryer, that needed to be cleaned after each use. They had never cleaned the dryer inside filter since they purchased the dryer! Cleaning the lint from that inside filter made a big difference in how quickly the dryer finished a load of laundry!

One client said the dryer vent in their home had not been cleaned out “for a while”. As Eddie started to clean out that dryer vent, more and more lint came out. So much lint came out of that dryer vent, there must have only been a very little flow of dryer exhaust air going through it. A clogged dryer vent can be a fire hazard. The client stated it usually had taken several dryer cycles to get a load of laundry to dry. That was one very, very clogged dryer vent! And that dryer will be performing much better now that the vent is cleaned out.

If your dryer is taking longer and longer to dry a load of laundry, or if you need to run the dryer through several drying cycles to get your laundry dry, just call Eddie Kyles at A Lint Free Vent 904.537.1483 or email me at alintfreeventjax@gmail.com to make an appointment to get your spring dryer vent cleaning.

And if Eddie finds your dryer vent needs a repair, or would perform better if it were re-routed, don’t worry, Eddie can do those jobs for you, too!

Regular Dryer Vent Cleaning Is Better

The neighbor of one of our clients asked A Lint Free Vent to clean their dryer vent, too.

roof dryer vent cap with stuck flapperThe neighbor had not had their dryer vent cleaned in several years, but they thought the dryer vent didn’t need cleaning because they were not seeing lint blown out the dryer vent cap and onto their roof.

We went up on the roof to make sure the dryer vent cap was not somehow restricted. We found this model dryer vent cap has a flapper inside. The flapper was supposed to open while the dryer was running, and then close when the dryer stopped. Apparently, the flapper had been jammed in the cap since it had been installed (several years ago), and no lint could come out. That was why the clients never saw lint blowing out onto their roof.

lint from dryer vent duct with stuck roof vent cap flapperWe unstuck the dryer vent cap flapper, and then cleaned several years worth of lint from the dryer vent ductwork.

Our client’s dryer thoroughly dries a load of laundry much more quickly now! And our client is very happy they avoided a potential fire in their dryer vent duct from all of the lint which had collected in it.

Laundry Dryer Money Saving Tips

Who doesn’t like saving money when they can?

Clay Electric Co-op logoA recent newsletter from our local Clay County Electric Co-Op of Florida shared these money saving tips on dryer utility bills:

  • Cleaning a clogged dryer vent will help each load of laundry dry more quickly. That saves time doing laundry, and makes a clothes dryer run more efficiently.
  • Drying one load of laundry immediately after another will reduce heat loss and reduce dryer warm up time, and that will reduce the time it takes to dry each load of laundry.

It only follows that when your dryer does not have to run as long, you save money on your utility bill for the power used by the dryer. And it follows that the dryer will last longer, too. Win/Win!

Dryer Vents Need Annual Cleaning

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) recommends dryer vent cleaning each year, or whenever you notice that it takes longer than usual to get a load of laundry dried.

Lint collected in a flexible dryer vent ductBut because you can’t easily look inside your dryer vent ductwork to see how much lint has collected inside the vent, it’s easy to forget.

Some people notice signs that their dryer vent needs cleaning, like:

  • It takes longer to dry a load of laundry
  • Your dryer overheats and shuts off, and you have to wait for it to cool before you can finish drying a load of laundry
  • You see little clumps of lint sticking out of your dryer vent end cap, on your roof, beside your home, or in your garage

And the more you use your dryer (such as if you have a large family, or if you have a bank of dryers in your commercial laundromat), you should plan to get your dryer vent cleaned more than just once per year.

A homeowner in the Julington Creek neighborhood of Jacksonville, Florida called A Lint Free Vent recently to get their dryer vent cleaned. It had been 2 years since another company had cleaned their dryer vent!

The dryer exhaust flow in their dryer vent was restricted by the lint that had collected inside the ductwork since the last cleaning. These photos show some of the lint that we removed from their dryer vent ductwork. The rest of the lint that we removed went out the dryer vent end cap.

Our client was shocked to see how much lint had collected in their dryer vent! And they want A Lint Free Vent to clean their dryer vent on a regular basis.

As a service to our regular clients, we retain their contact information, and notify each client when their next dryer vent cleaning is due. Many of our clients have thanked us for providing this free and helpful safety consideration.

Fire Hazard – Look Behind Your Dryer

Remember that old saying, “Out of sight, out of mind?” When is the last time you took a peek at the space behind your dryer?

One of the first things we do when we visit a client’s home or business is to pull the dryer away from the wall so we can access the dryer vent.

Sometimes we find fallen clothes hangers. Sometimes we find that missing sock the client has been looking for. When went to clean the dryer vent in this Jacksonville, Florida home, we found the dryer vent had a sharp kink in it!

Having a kink in your dryer vent duct causes a restriction. When the hot, moist, dryer exhaust comes to the restriction in the vent duct, lint begins to collect and further restrict the duct. The accumulating lint in the restricted dryer vent duct is a FIRE Hazard! The restricted duct causes exhaust heat from the dryer to make that collected lint hotter while the load of laundry dries.

– Lint is combustible!
– Did you know that lint from your dryer can be used to start a fire for your barbecue grill or to start a campfire?

kinked dryer vent - fire hazard behind dryerIf you see your dryer vent duct has been kinked like the one in the photo, the duct needs to be replaced. Straightening the duct out a little will not remove the kink. A Lint Free Vent can replace your kinked dryer vent duct, and also clean your vent duct from the dryer, all the way to the vent cap outside your home.

– – Some people find replacing a kinked dryer vent duct a satisfying home DIY project. Flexible dryer vent ducting is available at neighborhood home improvement stores like Home Depot, Lowes, and Ace Hardware.

– – Other clients decide they are ready to replace their flexible dryer vent duct with metal dryer vent ductwork, a service which A Lint Free Vent can also provide.

Either way, please take a look behind your dryer from time to time to make sure your dryer vent duct has not been kinked by movement of the dryer.

Dryer Vent Cleaning Surprise!

We just never know what we will find when we take the dryer vent duct connection loose from the dryer wall vent duct connector.

We have found nuts that squirrels had stored in several vent ducts, and mud in one vent duct that went under the concrete slab the home was built upon.

birds nest in a dryer vent ductLooking in this client’s dryer vent duct wall connector, you can see a bird’s nest!

  • There was no flapper in the vent cap, on the outer wall of the home.

After checking the nest for bird eggs or baby birds, we carefully removed the nest. Further in the vent duct, we found a second nest. We again checked the nest and then removed it.

Then we cleaned lint from the vent ductwork with our rotating brush tool.

rotating brush, cleaning lint from inside a dryer vent

Our client was amazed when we showed them the first bird’s nest. And really shocked to hear there had been two bird’s nests restricting their dryer vent duct, as well as the lint we removed.

When we finished cleaning this dryer vent, we installed a vent cap with a flapper in it, that automatically closes when the dryer is not running. That will keep squirrels and birds out of this client’s vent duct now!

A Clean Dryer Vent Helps Shorten Dryer Time

Eddie Kyles - owner of A Lint Free VentA client called A Lint Free Vent 904.537.1483 from St. Augustine, Florida. The dryer vent in her home had been cleaned by another company, earlier this year, but it was taking longer and longer for her do get a load of laundry dried.

She had read several articles on our website, and called us to make an appointment so we could see if we could identify and fix the problem with her dryer, or if she needed a dryer repair service.

When we removed the dryer vent duct from the back of the dryer, the problem became clear. The dryer vent duct was totally blocked.

  • There were only 2 people in her home. There is no way that they could have created this much packed-in lint in the dryer vent in only a couple of months!
  • It was obvious that the prior dryer vent cleaning company had not done a thorough job of cleaning this dryer vent!

This photo shows the dryer duct when removed from the wall connection.

This photo shows the other end of the duct work, going into the dryer.

I showed the client how much lint was in their dryer vent and how it had backed-up into their dryer, and she was shocked!

Then we proceeded to clean the dryer vent.

A Lint Free Vent uses a rotating brush tool to remove the lint clinging to the interior of the dryer vent ductwork. Using a rotary brush is the preferred cleaning method to get best results in the dryer vent cleaning industry. We clean residential and commercial dryer vents. And we clean out each dryer vent thoroughly from the dryer end to the duct termination cap, using a rotating brush to remove lint that clings to the internal walls of the dryer vent duct.

Our client called us again a few days later and thanked us for cleaning her dryer vent. She said her dryer is much faster at drying a load of laundry now!
