Jacksonville Dryer Vent Cleaning – Just In Time!

Eddie Kyles - owner of A Lint Free VentJacksonville dryer vent cleaning is a personally rewarding job. I enjoy helping others.

Often I can see that a client’s dryer vent is past due for a thorough cleaning while driving up to their home. I see clumps of dryer lint hanging out of the dryer vent roof cap, and scattered across the roof. Or I see lint hanging out of the dryer vent end cap on the side of the home, and clumps of dryer lint in the yard.

During a recent visit to a client’s home to clean their dryer vent, I found the lint was coming out the dryer vent end cap. And then I found out the lint was packed all the way in the dryer ductwork back into the dryer!

Thank goodness the homeowner called A Lint Free Vent for a professional dryer vent cleaning when they did! Dryer lint is flammable! That lint-packed dryer vent was a house fire just waiting to happen!

I showed the homeowner how much lint was in their dryer vent and how it had backed-up into their dryer, and they were shocked! They told me to put them on our calendar for an annual reminder for dryer vent cleaning. They want to protect their home from fire, and A Lint Free Vent is happy to help.

Having a clean dryer vent in your home or business helps a dryer get laundry thoroughly dry in less time. That means no more repeating drying cycles several times to get laundry dry. Getting laundry dry in less time saves energy and gives more time for other activities.

  • As a service to regular clients, A Lint Free Vent retains their contact information, and notifies each client when their next dryer vent cleaning is due. Many of our clients have thanked us for providing this free and helpful safety consideration.

Watery Clogged Dryer Vent

Who ever heard of a watery clogged dryer vent? A homeowner called A Lint Free Vent 904.537.1483 to clean their dryer vent.

Their dryer would not thoroughly dry a load of laundry. The homeowner had done some troubleshooting themselves, pulling the dryer away from the wall and unhooking the dryer from the dryer vent. They tried a load of wet towels and found the dryer could dry well with the vent unconnected. Sounded like time to clean out that dryer vent to us, too!

  • lint clogging a dryer ventEach time you dry a load of laundry, moist lint from the drying laundry collects on the inner walls of the dryer exhaust ductwork.
  • With each load of laundry dried, more and more lint collects inside the dryer exhaust, restricting the flow of the exhaust.

This home, like many in northeastern Florida, is built on a concrete slab. The dryer vent duct was routed under the slab when the home was built. The vent duct comes up outside the footprint of the concrete foundation slab. The outside end of the dryer vent ends in a curved PVC section, commonly called a “shepherd’s hook”. Over time this dryer vent had built up enough lint and moisture that a sludge of lint and water collected in the bottom, blocking the dryer vent duct!

A Lint Free Vent uses a rotating brush tool to remove the lint clinging to the interior of the dryer vent ductwork. Using a rotary brush is the preferred cleaning method to get best results in the dryer vent cleaning industry.

Cleaning dryer vent with shepherd's hookFirst we removed the top section of the shepherd’s hook. Then we moved our rotating brush all the way through this vent duct, and a bunch of wet lint and water flew out and freed-up the dryer vent!

This homeowner was shocked to see what had been clogging their dryer vent! No more watery clogged dryer vent!

Hot Dryer – Restricted Dryer Vent – Baymeadows in Jacksonville FL

The owner of a 3rd floor condo in the Baymeadows neighborhood of Jacksonville, Florida recently called A Lint Free Vent 904.537.1483 to clean the dryer vent in her home. Pulling the dryer away from the wall to access and begin cleaning the dryer vent, we could see scorch marks on the back of the dryer!

These scorch marks were caused by the dryer heaters overheating during drying cycles! The dryer vent was so restricted by lint that had built up in the vent duct, that the dryer heating elements were overheating, causing those scorch marks on the outside of the dryer!

The client was surprised to see the scorch marks on the back of the dryer. She said she was thankful to get the dryer vent professionally cleaned, avoiding a dryer fire in her condo!

Dryer vents should have the lint professionally cleaned out on a regular, periodic basis. The frequency depends on how often you dry laundry and what type of materials that you dry. We suggest getting your dryer vent cleaned at least once each year is a good standard to start with. Your dryer vent cleaning professional will be able to tell you if you need more frequent or less frequent dryer vent cleanings after they have finished cleaning your vent.

Lint collected in a flexible dryer vent ductA restricted dryer vent is usually caused by lint; little, short, fine fibers of fabric that separate from laundry during a dryer’s drying cycle. This lint from drying laundry is moist, causing it to collect in the exhaust path of dryer exhaust vent ducting each time the dryer is used. As lint collects, it increases the time it takes to dry items, and decreases the efficiency of the dryer.

As lint collects inside the vent duct, it dries and becomes flammable and restricted dryer vents cause dryers to overheat. Collected lint accumulations in dryer vent ducts can cause house fires, and even deaths.

When was the last time you got your dryer vent cleaned? Avoid a dryer fire and keep your dryer vent from becoming clogged with lint by calling Eddie Kyles at A Lint Free Vent 904.537.1483 for an appointment for an annual dryer vent cleaning, or Contact Us.

Do You Wash Your Dryer Lint Screen?

Many people use dryers sheets to help their laundry feel softer, smell better, and reduce static electricity that builds up in some fabric during the machine drying process.

Dryer lint screenBut using dryer sheets can lead to a build up in fabric softener on the dryer lint screen, which can partially block airflow.

If you use dryer sheets with your laundry, you should periodically remove the fabric softener build up on the dryer lint screen:

  • remove the dryer lint screen from the dryer and soak it in a sink or container of hot water and dish washing liquid
  • use an old tooth brush to scrub the screen to loosen the build up of fabric softener
  • then rinse the screen and let it air dry before re-installing it in your dryer.

And keep your dryer vent from becoming clogged with lint by calling Eddie Kyles at A Lint Free Vent 904.537.1483 for an annual dryer vent cleaning, or Contact Us.

Commercial Laundry Dryer Vent Cleaning – Jacksonville FL

Many of us have heard the old axiom, “What you don’t know can’t hurt you.” Well that is just not true for dryer lint collecting in the dryer vent duct.

Eddie Kyles - owner of A Lint Free VentThe owner of a commercial laundry in Jacksonville, Florida recently called Eddie Kyles, owner of A Lint Free Vent, to get their dryer vent ducts cleaned.

The commercial laundry was very nice and clean inside.

When we got up on the roof of the building, we could see dryer lint all over the rooftop.

A lot of fabric will be washed and dried in a commercial laundry each year. Each time a piece of fabric is dried in a commercial dryer, little pieces; short, fine fibers separate from the surface of cloth and become lint. That moist lint is blown out of the dryer into the dryer vent ductwork. Some of the lint is blown clear through the vent and out the roof cap or vent cap on the side of the building. But some of that lint is heavy with moisture and falls onto the inner walls of the vent duct and begins to collect.

Over time, that lint can build up inside the vent duct, restricting the flow of exhaust air and building up heat. That restricted dryer vent makes the dryer work harder and longer to dry a load of laundry, and that leads to repair or replacement of the dryer. Once it is dried out, that dryer lint is flammable, and the increased heat in the restricted dryer vent has led to fires in commercial laundries and in homes, too!

lint clogged dryer vent roof capThe amount of lint that collects in dryer vent varies with each home or business. For some locations, an annual dryer vent cleaning is sufficient.

For more active homes or businesses that dry a lot more laundry, or fabric that produces a lot more lint, more frequent dryer vent cleaning may be recommended.

If dryer vents have been damaged, or the client wants the vent duct re-routed (such as from exhausting into the garage to exhaust outside the home), Eddie can provide a free estimate, and can replace and re-route both flexible and metal dryer exhaust vents, too!

Save Money – Get Your Dryer Vent Professionally Cleaned

A Lint Free Vent Dryer Vent Cleaning Service - logoYou will save money all year long when you get your dryer vent professionally cleaned on a regular schedule by A Lint Free Vent of Jacksonville, Florida!

A little information about our Dryer Vent Cleaning Service

1. A professionally cleaned, free flowing dryer vent allows your laundry to dry more quickly. This saves time in your day and saves you money on your utility bill. It takes less energy to dry your laundry when your dryer vent duct is clean.

2. A cleaned dryer vent will save you money on repairs and on more frequent replacement cost for your dryer. The lint that collects in your dryer vent makes your dryer work harder to remove the moisture from your laundry. A dryer that is working harder to dry each load of laundry will result in more maintenance and repair costs. And a dryer that has to work harder during each drying cycle will need to be replaced sooner than it should.

Jacksonville Commercial Dryer Vent Cleaning

A Jacksonville spa called A Lint Free Vent 904.537.1483 to get their dryer vent ductwork cleaned. The spa washes and dries laundry used in their nail salon and massage therapy facilities, on site.

With each load of laundry dried, more and more lint collects inside the dryer exhaust, restricting the flow of the exhaust.

When the dryer exhaust is restricted, the dryer has to work longer and harder to dry a load of laundry, costing the spa more money to dry their laundry. And the restricted exhaust builds up heat, which could lead to a fire!

Have you seen the little signs along the side of the road and at stoplights, “Dryer vent cleaning – $45”?

Remember the old saying, “If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.”? That saying is still often true today.

Husqvarna battery powered Leaf BlowerThere are people who will charge you $45 to clean your dryer vent. Some of those people will just remove the flexible exhaust hose from the back of your clothes dryer, and then use their portable vacuum exhaust, or a leaf blower to blow air through the dryer exhaust vent ducting!

Will this process clean the lint out of the ductwork from your clothes dryer? Maybe some lint will get blown out. But most of the lint will remain stuck to the inside walls of the exhaust vent ducting.

Lint collected in a flexible dryer vent ductThere is still a significant danger of a house fire, caused by the lint that remains stuck to the walls of your dryer vent.

And it still will take longer for your laundry to dry, because the flow of air through the vent is still restricted.

Annual dryer vent cleanings are important to keep our clients and their homes, condos, apartments and businesses safe.
